RIGHTS vs ENTITLEMENTS

On the way to work this morning, listening to the radio and Bring the Rain by Mercyme was playing. I thought about how the song has ministered to me these past 2 years. My greatest desire is to bring God honor no matter what.
The Chorus:
Bring me joy, bring me peace

Bring me anything that brings You glory

But if that's what it takes to praise You
Jesus, bring the rain

Then I began to think about the new health care fiasco and a man from Canada ask why we were upset as they had universal coverage for years. I began to think of the Israelites and after being slaves for years in Egypt, they were rescued and in the wilderness but they wanted to go back to what they knew. They had become acclimated, accepted the life, and had no vision of freedom and blessings.

Since FDR, America as a whole is becoming a nation of entitlement. Some would rather big government, or even a socialist country, so “everyone is treated EQUALLY”, regardless of how much they contribute. I agree that we are to help the widows and orphans, and that the church has let down in her responsibility, so the government has stepped in and done it.

The Declaration of Independence states: “That all men are created equal; that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable rights; that among these are life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness...” I believe these rights are the opportunity to pursue, but it is up to us to take our opportunity and not expect others to provide. With provision comes obligation and debt, which can lead to bondage.

Anyway, that’s how I see it. Feel free to disagree.

I totally agree with you. I get so frustrated over the whole ordeal, then the Lord reminds me to not be afraid of what man can do to me. He's my provider and He will give us discernment and wisdom on how to handle the upcoming days.

Thanks Brenda. We all have the ability to grow comfortable with the status quo and not stretch and consider that we're looking our for #1. Have to check myself as to what is best overall not just me and mine.
