Katie covers many issues that girls are faced with daily, and she does it in a way that is neither condescending nor patronizing but is fun and informative. She has done a great job speaking to the girls in a way that they can relate to.
The book is divided into three sections, Body, Mind, and Soul. Some issues that she addresses are Self-Esteem, Pressure and the Real You, Beauty, Family, and Who You’ll Choose to Be. She does this in an open, honest discussion format and each chapter has lists of BIG MYTHS and then has the REAL DEAL.
An example on page 147:
“BIG MYTH: Girls are supposed to be polite.
REAL DEAL: Girls are supposed to protect themselves. Speak up if your rights are being abused.”
I would recommend for parents to have their teen and preteen girls to read this book. They would benefit immensely and it quite possibly would open up an opportunity for a good discussion.
