OUT OF A FAR COUNTRY by Christopher Yuan and his mother Angela Yuan was a mother and son’s journey to God.

Angela is a mother born in China was an atheist who wanted nothing to do with God. She was raised by parents who were distant so was determined to be involved in her sons’ lives to the point that she smothered and attempted to control them. Although her and her husband were succeeding their lives were hollow and they had drifted apart. Growing up Christopher was an outcast for being Chinese and preferring the arts to sports. He felt he was born gay and had while in college become active in the gay community.

After the came out to his parents Angela decided she no longer had anything to live for and was going to take her life. God instead got her attention and she surrendered her life to him. Leon, her husband came to Christ also and She began to pray earnestly for Christopher.

The book is a modern prodigal son parable and is very gripping account of both mother and son’s journey. It is a hard book to put down. Christopher’s eventual search for God and how God brings him to the decision to follow Him is inspiring however Angela’s story should encourage all mother’s who have prodigal’s.

I received this book from Waterbrook Press complimentary for an unbiased review.
