PRIVILEGE OR BONDAGE?

Historical fiction is one of favorite type of books to read. Jessica Dotta peeked my interest with BORN OF PERSUASION, a Privilege Trilogy. This was the first of the series and I am quite interested in where she will take the characters next.

Set in the 1800's in England when women had little to no voice and class differences were prevalent in society we begin our journey.  The story follows Julie Elliston a recent orphan who has long loved  Edward, the youngest son of Lord Auburn. Her father was an outspoken atheist who became an outcast and subsequently this affected her and her mother's acceptance in society.

This is during the time when women were the property of their fathers, husbands or guardians.  Julie being a young unmarried woman was at the mercy of her unknown guardian. Wishing to escape his plans to send her to Scotland to be a widow's companion, she decides to visits her mother's dearest friend, Mrs. Windham. Mrs. Windham is the mother of her best friend Elizabeth who is in love with the older Auburn brother, Henry.

Jessica Dotta weaves an intriguing tale of mystery, deceit, love, and murder that will hold you  spell bound and at times unable to put the book down.

I received this book free from Tyndale for an honest review. I loved it and would recommend it to all.
