FORBIDDEN LOVE

I just finished the latest Cindy Woodsmall book, A LOVE UNDONE . Again I wasn't disappointed in her storyline, her knowledge and understanding of the Amish faith and community, and her ability to draw you in and empathize with the characters.

The subtitle says it well, "An Amish Novel of Shattered Dreams and God's Unfailing Grace."

On the eve of her wedding we find Jolene, a young woman who is orphaned one stormy night, the oldest of six children. Her fiancé, Van Bieler are faced with decisions. What will they decide to do? How will it affect them all?

When the decisions were being made, one of the siblings said "Maybe we were given life and are in this family for their  sakes."

The decision was not an easy one and ten years later the story is picked up.  Where is the Jolene and Van? What has happened to the family?

"there were different kinds of forgiveness. The type Jolene had given was between her heart and God's. She had let go of her anger and the unfairness of the situation to Him. But Van and Donna were now asking that she give direct forgiveness to them."

We may not always understand other faith's, however we need to respect and in this instance, admire the commitment to hold to what is the honorable thing to do. The honorable is not always the easiest or the one the heart wants.

I received this book free from WaterBrook Publishers for an honest review.
